Engines

  • Inboards
  • Change the oil and filter.
  • Check the bilge pumps for leaks..
  • Clean off the battery terminals with a wire brush.
  • Outboards
  • Check the fuel line and tanks for leaks.
  • Check your fuses to make sure there isn’t any corrosion.
  • Lubricate the moving parts on your boat.

Deck and Cabin

  • Wash down windows and hatches to get rid of dirt debris that has accumulated over winter.
  • Clean all of your surface areas well, vacuum, and washing down appropriate spots.
  • Open windows to remove any bad odors.
  • Clean your appliances, sink, and cooker thoroughly.
  • These areas create bugs and bacteria if they aren’t cleaned properly.
  • If you have teak on your boat be sure to examine the conditions of it.
  • Spring is the perfect time to sand, stain and varnish your teak to prepare it for fair weather boating.
  • Lastly inspect canvas or vinyls for holes, tears, and general cleanliness.
  • If you see mold on your canvas or other areas, you will need to thoroughly clean the area, then apply marine grade Biocide cleaners or spray to get rid of the mold.

Electric System/ Batteries

  • Read your batteries manufacturers instructions for the appropriate maintenance.
  • Be sure to clean off any corrosion that may appear on it.
  • Test your battery to see if it needs to be charged or replaced.
  • Once you have a fully charged battery, be sure to coat battery terminals with the proper grease, or with a protective terminal spray.
  • Make sure your cord is safe to use and is not damaged.

Hull and Propellers

Hull

  • Make sure you examine your hull for any blisters, cracks, or oxidation that may appear.
  • If you dry stored your boat over the winter, it is easier to clean your hull while out of the water.

Propellers

  • Be sure to look for cracks, dings, or chips.
  • The creation of these small things can damage your drive train costing you a boat load of money.
